Baltimore native. Naval aviator and test pilot with over 2,000 flight hours in F/A-18 combat aircraft. Selected by NASA in 2009 from 3,500 applicants. ISS veteran with 165 days in space and two spacewalks. Former Chief of the Astronaut Office (2020-2022). At 50, he's the oldest person to travel beyond low Earth orbit. After losing his wife Carroll to cancer in 2020, he considers single parenting his greatest personal achievement.
Born in Pomona, California. Cal Poly graduate with four academic degrees including engineering, systems, and military science. Naval combat pilot with 3,000+ flight hours in 40+ aircraft and 400+ carrier landings. Completed 24 combat missions. Piloted the first operational SpaceX Crew Dragon to ISS in 2020, spending 168 days in orbit with 4 spacewalks. His callsign is "Ike" (I Know Everything).
Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and raised in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Holds dual bachelor's degrees (electrical engineering and physics) and a master's from NC State. Worked on space instrumentation at NASA Goddard and spent a year in Antarctica at the South Pole station as part of firefighting and rescue teams. Completed 328 consecutive days on ISSβthe female recordβand performed the first three all-female spacewalks with Jessica Meir.
Born in London, Ontario and raised on a farm near Ailsa Craig. Joined Air Cadets at age 12 and earned his pilot's license at 17. CF-18 combat pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force and NORAD experience. Holds a BSc in Space Science and a master's in Physics from Royal Military College. Selected by CSA in 2009, he was the first non-American to lead a NASA astronaut class. His mission patch features seven sacred animals from Anishinaabe Indigenous teachings.
